Richmond Elementary School, part of the Chariho Regional School District, cultivates lifelong learners and problem solvers by placing an emphasis on rigor, inquiry, and integrity while recognizing the individuality of each and every child.  RES is a vibrant community made up of passionate teachers, kind and curious students, involved families and actively engaged community partners. We are proud of our students’ academic achievement, and have been recognized by the state of Rhode Island as a Commended School three times since 2012.

Our school offers a special education classroom for students with unique learning needs.  In addition to specialized instruction from a special education teacher, students have access to therapies throughout the school day provided by collaborative team consisting of a certified occupational therapist, physical therapist, adaptive physical education teacher and speech language pathologist.

Beginning in Kindergarten, RES students learn to show “C.A.R.E.S.”  based on the Responsive Classroom approach to create safe, joyful, and engaging classroom and school community.  Our students participate in the Great Kindness Challenge, practice mindful breathing and learn the power of making decisions based on love from the “Choose Love” curriculum.

The communication between parent and teacher is strong!  Parents and grandparents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer in classrooms.  Our PTO is active and amazing. Over the years, they have raised money to fund projects to enhance our students’ experiences in school such as the Peaceful Playground painting project, new playground benches, and water bottle filling stations.  They plan seasonal events such as the Ice-Cream Social and Yagoo Snow Tubing to enable our students and families to have fun and celebrate our community.

We are especially proud of our Health and Wellness Specialty where we find natural opportunities, before, during and after the school day to guide, support, and nurture our students’ social-emotional and physical well-being. Some examples include intramural sports offered after-school, Farm Fresh RI Food Ambassador program, a before-school Reebok BOKS movement program, and Mental Health and Well-being workshops for parents and students.
